In pregnancy, the 19th week is a time eagerly awaited by parents, as the sex of the baby can be determined. The expectant mother should take better care of herself, avoid noise and get more rest.

The 19th week of pregnancy - which month is it?

Week 19 is the 5th month of pregnancy. This is the time when expectant parents expect to confirm the sex of their baby. This is also the perfect time to have an ultrasound.

What does the baby look like in the 19th week of pregnancy?

The weight of the foetus in week 19 is about 240 grams. Its size is similar to that of a mango. From this point on, the foetus grows quite fast.

Development and movements of the baby in the 19th week of pregnancy

In the 19th week of pregnancy, the baby is not yet ready to breathe on its own, but it already has developed lungs and swallows fetal water, which not only enables it to absorb nutrients, but also promotes the development of all the muscles necessary for breathing. The famous hiccups, which are expressed by rhythmic vibrations, are proof that the baby is exercising diligently. The circulatory system is already working efficiently, other internal systems and organs are formed.

The 19th week is therefore the ideal time to find out the sex of the baby, if the parents so wish. Some expectant mothers are worried that they will not yet be able to feel the baby's movements in the 5th month. However, this is no reason to be afraid. The foetus still has plenty of room in the womb, so its movements may not be noticeable or may seem very gentle. As the baby gains weight quite quickly with each week, the expectant mother will certainly feel its movements in a few days.

Belly in the 19th week of pregnancy

In the 19th week, the belly becomes more and more visible, however, many women claim that it can be well hidden in loose clothing. It is difficult to clearly determine how much a woman should gain by this time. The generally accepted framework is that it is an increase of about 4-5 kg in relation to the weight at the beginning of pregnancy. However, if the expectant mother has gained a little more or less, this is no cause for concern. Every pregnancy has its own rules and individual circumstances play an important role.

Well-being in the 19th week of pregnancy

In the 19th week the abdomen enlarges and the uterus continues to grow, which can cause pulling in the groin as the ligaments are stretched by the uterus. In turn, the enlargement of the abdomen is synonymous with a tightening of the skin, which often begins to itch and may develop the first small stretch marks. Dynamic hormonal changes contribute to frequent colds and urinary tract infections. The mother-to-be is exposed to more external factors. It is recommended that she eats plenty of yellow, green and orange vegetables during this time and avoids excessive contact with the sun. Intense sunbathing can contribute to the appearance of discolouration.
