Stem cells
from the umbilical cord
Stem cells
Stem cells are primitive, non-specialised cells characterized by their limitless potential to proliferate and their unique ability to differentiate into specialised cells whereby tissues are formed. Their properties have been used to renew or replace damaged cells. Stem cells can be retrieved, among others, from the umbilical cord blood.

The reasons to save umbilical cord
- mesenchymal cells are used in medical therapeutic experiments in the treatment of diseases such as children with cerebral palsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or articular cartilage damage,
- they can be transplanted together with umbilical cord blood cells, in situations of a relatively small number of hematopoietic stem cell blood from umbilical cord blood,
- can be used in the treatment of the whole family (no tissue compatibility is required as restrictive as in the case of blood)
